Isn't this just a poll site like any other?

I guess asking people for their opinion is just like asking people for their opinion. So, yes. However, uchoo is not supposed to tell us how America feels about its current choice of President, nor is it intended to tell us who's the greatest footballer of all time. Its simply for your dilemmas. What should I wear? Two choices. Bang! Job done.

What makes uchoo cool?

OK so you can ask loads of people what they think, anytime about anything. That's pretty great, right? Well, not only that but you can also ask different groups what they think. So, say you want to know what people like your boyfriend think? No problem. Want to know what his parents would think? No problem either. Perhaps you're going on holiday to Italy and want to know what they wear in clubs - no problem just drill down to see the choices of Italians between the age of 18-23. Simple. Oh and its fast, simple and free.

Don't you think its weird getting advice from strangers?

Not really. Everyone has an opinion, they just usually keep it to themselves. Asking for advice lets you know what most people would choose. Plus, I think strangers are more likely to be honest - they don't know any background information and they're not concerned about hurting your feelings.

Can I use the site for commercial/business dilemmas?

Yes. Why not?! Which logo's better? What's a better strap line? Which colour packaging is better? I'll see how this goes and might make some policy changes in the future but for now it sounds useful to me.

Does uchoo mean anything?

Well, its derived from 'you choose' as in "I can't decide, you choose" but apparently it does mean 'friend' in Keni unn. Which I think is rather apt. If you know of any other meanings please let me know - I'd love to know about them?

Who runs uchoo?

uchoo was developed by me, James Docherty. I do my best to support the site until it grows big enough to fund other people. You can contact me via the blog. Special thanks to my chief beta tester, Liz though!

Where are you based?

I'm currently living by the beach in Christchurch, New Zealand.

What did you use to build uchoo?

For the techies: the application server is php 4.3.1 with a mySQL 5 database. There's also a healthy chunk of client-side Javascript (AJAX) to ensure full membership of the Web 2.0 club! Development was done on a combination of OSX and Win2k in Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Navicat.

So, do you have a fancy Web 2.0 description for the site?

Not really, but you can try this if you like! "uchoo is a personal decision making web app based on the principles of social networking and peer review."

What does 'beta' mean?

uchoo is still in development. This means things will probably break and might be more wobbly than when the site's fully polished. The core functionality is finished and available though and you'll still be able to do most things OK. If you find an issue with the site, please check the known issues page and let me know. Thanks.

I've got an idea how you could make uchoo better, what do I do?

That's great - I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions. You can drop me a line via the contact page or pop over to the blog to have a more public discussion. If you're near Sumner, we could always discuss it over a coffee!
